I’m taking my 11 year old son to Las Vegas. Can anyone recommend family fun? We’re staying at circus circus so I know all about that. I was thinking of taking him on the Grand Canyon Helicopter ride, but it’s so expensive and long. Has anyone taken a shorter trip to the Grand Canyon that they can recommend?

why did the media apparently not know the cause of death? I mean, come on. Some guy opened the door to a helicopter when he was in it over the Grand Canyon (he was a tourist taking a tour)… and then INTENTIONALLY FELL into the GC. How can one not see the very obvious cause of death here? Why were they so unsure?
I wasn’t there, but multiple newspaper articles used the phrase “intentionally fell” because this is apparently what the particular tourism company was authorized to say.

Hi,

I am looking for a tour of the Grand Canyon (leaving from LV strip) where we get a helicopter out there, followed by a horse-back ride into the canyon followed again by a helecopter back to LV to save on time.

Im not really interested in staying the night – can anyone PLEASE help?

THANKS!!!!!!!

A LOT of snow, very cold and hazardous conditions on Christmas Day up in the Grand Canyon. The 30 to 50mph winds and snow showers unfortunately prevented any viewing of the Canyon itself throughout the whole day. However, to experience the beauty of such a dangerous and beautiful place is unforgettable. This is the most snow I have ever seen or been in (sorry, I am from California!) Although my mom and I were saddened we could not see the inner walls of the Canyon covered in snow, just being up there was awesome.

This footage was filmed along the trail on Mather Point at the South Rim.

Grand Canyon South Rim Airplane Tours from Las Vegas

Grand Canyon South Rim Airplane Tours from Las Vegas

Too often, Las Vegas visitors put off going to the South Rim because it’s too far. This assumption is based on the marathon canyon bus tours that last upwards of 15 hours. I consider myself an inveterate traveler, but putting that much time on the road even has me shaking my head.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

The hottest air tour is the Grand Canyon South Rim airplane tour that takes just 45 minutes to land at the National Park. Once I tell people about this, they get excited and start searching their mobile phones.

For those of you reading this on your home PC, here’s the skinny…

This air tour leaves daily from the Las Vegas area. The flight plan heads east over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam and then follows the Colorado River to Tusayan, the small town where the canyon airport is.

It should be noted that by the time you start making your descent, you will have seen half of the canyon by air. That’s extraordinary when you consider the National Park is 277 miles long. Try to do that on the ground in 45 minutes!

The tour deplanes and transfers to a luxury bus that takes you to the edge of the rim. Most tours will include Mather Point, Yaki Point, and Yavapai Observation Station, or some variation thereof.

You’ll also have time to enjoy Grand Canyon Village. If you are really hungry (most tours include a light lunch), I strongly recommend you get a booth at the restaurant inside the Bright Angel Lodge. Snacks? Go through the Lodge and take a right. There’s a small shop there that serves ice cream, drinks, and more.

If you can’t get enough time in the air, this canyon air tour can be upgraded to include a helicopter tour. This side-trip is phenomenal. Taking off from the South Rim, you head into the heart of the Dragoon Corridor, the widest deepest part of the canyon, before turning back at the North Rim. It’s a heck of a flight.

Even the return airplane flight is special. Up in the air and headed to Vegas, it’s sunset time, and if you haven’t see the canyon at near dusk, hold on to your hat. It’s a beautiful site, especially if you happen to be sitting on the right side of the aircraft (wink!).

So there you go, Sin City travelers. Just book the Grand Canyon South Rim airplane tour from Las Vegas and you’ll find yourself amid the most incredible scenery in under an hour. Put the rim back on your list of things to do. It’s yours for the taking.
