Grand Canyon South Rim
The Grand Canyon became a national park in 1919 and encompasses more than a million acres. That’s a lot of land to wrap your head around. Let’s break it down:
- The Colorado River churns through the Canyon for 277 miles, starting at Lee’s Ferry and ending at the Grand Wash Cliffs.
- From the South Rim to the bottom, it’s a vertical mile (about 5,000 feet). Its deepest point is 6,000 feet.
- The distance from the South Rim to the North Rim is 10 miles as “the crow flies.”
- The Canyon is five to six million years old, a relative “baby” in geological history.
So, considering the awesome scale of this natural wonder, where’s the best place to experience it? The South Rim, of course.
The South Rim is accessible by bus, train, and car. Standard departure points include Las Vegas, Phoenix, Flagstaff, AZ, Sedona, AZ, and Williams, AZ. Once inside the Park’s gates, the adventure begins. Which brings me to this blog’s purpose. Its goal is to:
