SANTA FE (AP) – Gerd Nunner is a little crazy about the Grand Canyon. The Santa Fe businessman has walked from the South Rim to the North Rim and back again 31 times in less than 20 hours each time, wearing knee supports on his bad knees.

I was there a few days ago, I flew over the Grand Canyon via Scenic Airlines the cost was $119.00 a person/e were over Lake Mead as well as the Canyon for over an hour. You can see a lot more from an Airplane. The pilots knew the canyon very well. There was an audio description as we flew. Very enjoyable trip and I was very happy as were my 2 traveling campions
How far is south rim from las vegas? Should I go by car or take conducted tour?
What are pros and cons of taking bus tour?
It is a five hour drive each way, at least, more if you stop to pee a couple times.
So if you start at 7:00Am you will be there by noon and have 3 or 4 hours to look around before you spend 5 hours driving back and you get back to Vegas about 10:00PM.
The drive is about 200 miles, but on mostly 2 lane roads with a bunch of traffic and trucks. In other words hard driving. You’ll have to pay for 2 days in a rental car, plus gas and you will probably be tired the next day, unless you have several people who know how to drive on 2 lane roads to share the driving.
If you have 4 or 5 people the car trip will be much less costly. A bus trip will run you about $120 or more each, for the same trip (time at the canyon). There is a place next to the MGM Grand hotel that hawks trip to the Canyon, its called the Grand Canyon Experience. Other folks up and down the strip also hawk trips there.
I did that drive once, but we stayed overnight. It gave us plenty of time to see ALL of the canyon overlooks and have a short days drive each day. There are places to stay at the canyon rim and just outside the park there are Quality Inn , Best Western, etc. type places. Reserve early.

Hello
Which tour company is best for the Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tour – I would prefer going by bus as I’ve never been in helicopter and never fancied it.
I’ve been looking at http://www.alllasvegastours.com/Body.asp?tour=LAS-B0024&page=TourDetails
Are they genuine?
Thanks
Andrew
My wife and I went to the Grand Caynon from Williams AZ on the train from there. It was an enjoyable trip both ways. At the Canyon they took us to the sights by bus. Our guides were from the Indian tribe of that region. they were knowledgeable about the area. I would suggest you try the train and see the Canyon up close and personal. I have also flown over the Canyon from Las Vegas on Scenic tours by airplane, that too was a great trip. By air you see more of the canyon. Both ways are a great trip. Sit back relax and enjoy a true joy to see.
I’d like to visit the Grand Canyon south rim for a day while I’m in Las Vegas. I’ve seen many ads for day trips via bus to the Grand Canyon, but I can’t decide between them. Some cost only $80 while others cost $150 — and the intineries seem identical. Basically, I want a quality tour from a reputable tour operator and I want to have plenty of time at the Grand Canyon, as opposed to freqent stops at stores and attractions where the tour operators gets a commission for bring tourists there. Any advice, links to tour operators?
which ever bus tour you take its a long long day.We went with Grand Canyon Tours.got picked up @6am didnt get back till 11pm.it all seemed a bit rushed at the Canyon 3 different viewing points 3/4/hour at each..get any souvenoirs @ the Canyon because the gift shop they take you to is small and about the indians not the canyon.. Flying to the south rim may get you longer to explore the Canyon, but either way standing on the lip with a 1/2/mile drop is breathe taking
