Hi, a group of us girls are going to Las Vegas the week of Oct 22, 2007. According to the weather channel online, the temperature is approx 75 degrees that week. We are taking a mini trip to Hoover Dam and the south rim of the Grand Canon. Any idea’s on how to dress (We are all from the northeast)? I keep telling them dressing in layers is best but it would be nice to get some feedback from frequent travelers and locals.
Also, is it a good week for some poolside lounging? Thanks!

I live here. The weather will be around the low 80’s to high 70’s. It does get windy. If you are from the northeast it will be warm for you. The night time gets chilly(to us locals lol) mid 60 to 50 at night. So if you bring a pair of pants & t shirts with a light jacket just in case, you’ll be fine. You may be able to go pool side. The casinos are chilly inside. & Just so you know the weather chanel is off a lot of the time!!!! It said 4th of July was 114 & the temp in my back yard said 116. Good luck have fun!!!

Does anyone know about the weather in this area around the end of February? I’ve looked online and it does say that it could be snowy/icy which concerns me a little.

I’m going to be staying in Williams, driving there from Las Vegas and then heading to the South Rim. I’ve done this drive at various other times during the year, including November when we had some snow but it wasn’t icy. I’m just a little concerned at how icy it might and what the driving conditions might be like.

Thanks

Personally I would expect snow in possibly very significant amounts on that stretch of road. The snowline is basically at the Ash Fork exit. Expect snow east of there .
S.Rim GCNP temps should be in the 20’s
Check w/ ADOT for road closures
Have fun

We are planning an overnight this week in the canyon, south rim, and would like to know what to expect before we fly all of our gear out for one overnight in the inner canyon.

go to the Arizona Republic web site
click state weather
"Grand Canyon" refers to the village complex on the rim
"Phantom Ranch "refers to the campsites and lodgings that are located on the Colorado river 4600′ below the rim . As a rule there is a 30 degree difference between rim and river

http://www.grandcanyon.com/weather.html The weather at the Grand Canyon plays a big factor in deciding when you will visit the Grand Canyon. Before leaving on your Grand Canyon vacation, always be sure to check the weather forecast. The weather can limit some or many of the activities at the Grand Canyon depending on where the storm is coming from and the season of the year.

I saw several camping grounds. mather , south rim, etc… which one is with best scenic views around and most facilities.
Are tents available with heaters? How will the weather be and is it advisable to go there in dec end?

Yes camping is possible at and down in the Grand Canyon during the winter I prefer the south rim and Mather campground. Keep in mind that it is 7000 ft altitude and even though they will get snow the campgrounds will remain open. The north rim roads close in the winter but you can still hike in to the campgrounds there. The south rim has the most facilities and there a several private camp grounds and trailer parks and hotels as well. Expect cold windy weather with possible rain and or snow. Tents are what you bring with or without a heater. I recommend renting an RV. or stay in one of the many fine hotels in the area, and by your question it sounds as if you have very little camping experience so I recommend you to the rv or hotel.

Grand Canyon weather is fickle at best. It’s a good idea to take a look at a forecast, preferably up to seven days, and plan your trip from there. No one source is totally accurate. However, there are some general “rules of thumb.” Spring typically comes early but South Rim weather can be all over the map. March can still be a bit chilly and windy; expect snow anywhere in the Canyon up until May. June is torrid hot with no breeze to cool you off (wear a hat, use sunscreen, and drink a lot of water). It’s Monsoon season from July to August – expect a lot of rainfall and severe thundershowers. Fall is an excellent time to visit, but it, too, can be unpredictable from day to day. Snow starts in November, but doesn’t last very long on the South Rim unless it’s a major storm system. Ice is a common condition on top of the Rim during the winter months.

Here’s a chart that shows maximum and minimum Temperature and Precipitation (Fahrenheit and Inches):
